What is the vagabond?

A new, free, nonprofit, magazine, available online and (in later months) in print. The magazine focuses on problems worldwide and how we are all connected. Currently in Australia, we feel there is a lack of opportunity for those wanting to help make the world a little better, other than merely donating to a cause. People feel disconnected. They read about global problems but have few outlets to participate in working against them, and so adopt the attitude of “But what can I do”?

Offering ways that everyday Australians can make a difference in their everyday lives. Sharing the stories of communities worldwide and how we are all connected. From the food we eat to the ways we get around, we all play a part.

Distribution

The magazine is sent out online, each issue offering fresh links to the vagabond site. Here readers can find more information on the features of that issue. The site holds all past issues, volunteer opportunities, upcoming events, media links, online documentaries, online forums and links to other groups, campaigns and nonprofits.

Promotion

Once adequate sponsorship is found, we will commence mass advertising around Melbourne’s CBD, followed by the printing and distribution of the current issue to thousands of commuters. All printed issues will have the aim of attracting readers to the vagabond online. Only environmentally friendly printing services, ink and paper will be used. Attempts to collect discarded copies from Melbourne’s public transport system will be made, ideally with the help of Metro/Yarra Trams, and all usable copies collected will be reused.

Funding / Advertising

Sponsorship is being sourced from credible local businesses with the vagabond approval. Advertising will be offered and all funds raised will go back into the production of the magazine or be passed onto a worthy group that has been focused on in the magazine. Fundraising events for highlighted groups in need worldwide. Sponsoring Environment focused events in Victoria. Promotion and subscription on a national level. Sustainability!

All members of the production team are volunteers, from the writers that reside worldwide to the army of distributors/promoters here in Melbourne.
